Summer 2008

<Deep sigh>  The Rigbees run at the coveted WMGK 2009 houseband slot has come to a disappointing close.  The band put its best classic rock foot forward with a set that included Genesis' "Follow You, Follow Me" and Bruce Springsteen's "Rosalita" in addition to the obligatory, and completely re-imagined version, of "Feels Like The First Time"...which definitely was
the first--and almost certainly the last--time that song appeared in a Rigbees set.  Despite a great fan response and solid feedback from onlookers, MGK staff and judges alike, this one just wasn't in the cards for The Rigs.  We had a great time and were happy to be a part of the festivities. Thanks to all the nice folks we met and everyone at that fine Philly classic rock institution over on the airwaves at 102.9 FM.

While not 100% confirmed, rumor had it that contest judge Riley Cote--Philadelphia Flyers winger and one of the most feared NHL pugilists--was the swing vote that cost The Rigbees the title.  An incensed Steve Brown--standing
notably close to both the Ladies Room and the Exit--was forced to confront Mr. Cote in defense of the band's honor.

brown_cote

While it appears in the picture above that he was smiling, Steve said he was actually "advance-wincing" at the blow he was about to receive from the man who Penguin's enforcer Georges Laraque called "pound-for-pound...the toughest guy in the NHL."  Now, we can't accurately describe the melee that ensued immediately following this shot but we've been in touch with the hospital and can ensure Flyers fans that Cote should be recovered and available for the home opener come October!

The Rigbees have been chosen as one of 15 finalists to compete for the title of The 2008 WMGK House Band. wmgk

We'll be going up against two other finalists on August 21, 2008 at Finnigan's Wake at 3rd and Spring Garden in downtown Philly, yo.

The first round requires each band to play a 15-minute set of classic rock cover songs that must include Foreigner's "Feels Like The First Time." (No, we're not making this up...) Rigbees bassist Mitch Cojocariu was quoted as saying, "Man, I wish they'd picked something from the Agent Provocateur LP instead." Regardless, the band will "represent" with a blistering, Rigbee-ized version of this classic rock nugget.

In an interesting twist, Rigbees lead singer Steve Brown recently took one for the team and underwent a precarious procedure called the "Lou Gramm hair transplant" (see pre and post-op photos below).

steve_lou_brown

The surgery was not covered by his healthcare plan, which--coupled with the obvious questionable results--certainly highlights The Rigbees dedication to their cause.

Stay tuned...

World Cafe show and new CD in the works!

Come out to the World Cafe Live on Friday, May 18th for a chance to hear some brand new Rigbee songs and to join us for our last major gig before we get working on our next CD.

We're fresh back from a 3 day marathon songwriting session in the Pocono Mountains and, along with numerous hop infused beverages, handfulls of beef jerky and two visits from the Lehigh Valley authorities, we managed to scrape together a fine collection of soon to be classics. We're excited to start polishing up these chestnuts at Mitch's new hideaway recording studio located somewhere in the confines of Willow Grove Manor!

Advance tickets for the show are recommended and available here.

September 2006

Rigbees with World Party

The Rigbees were added to several East Coast dates with World Party in September including the Irving Plaza, World Cafe Live and Recher Theater shows. The band had a blast performing to enthusiastic new audiences and making a bunch of new friends along the way. It was also great fun hanging out, sharing backstage trays (with the brown M&Ms removed of course) and talking world history, philosophy and British pub rules of billiards with Karl and the boys. We hope to see them again next trip round.

See a video clip from the Recher Theater show here.

Rigbees CD Release Party! (Photos)

What a blast it was! We'd just like to say how grateful we are to everyone who came to the "Treading Water in an Angry Ocean" CD release party on May 20 at World Cafe Live. We could not have had a better time thanks to all our fans, friends and families who were there to support the band!

A special thanks to the staff and production crew at World Cafe Live for allowing us to grace one of the finest stages in Philly and to Tom Degnan and all the folks at Heineken for sponsoring the event and keeping the Heineken Premium Light flowing all night long!

Props to our friends, The Successful Failures, for kicking off the night and getting the crowd going! (Check out their site for info on their upcoming debut release!) and to former Rigbees, Roddy West and Chris Daniel, for joining us on stage and "kickin' it old school!" - you guys always have and always will rock!

We we're fortunate to have local photographer Lisa Schaffer in the house to capture the event. Check out her photos of the Rigbees show and, while your at it, take a look around Lisa's Site for amazing local and national concert photos and much more - thanks again, Lisa!

Well, now that we have the first official gig under our belts with the new line-up, we are really excited to keep this train a' rolling. We'd love to see you during the summer so please check our schedule frequently and thanks again for the support!
